WRI Indonesia

We worked with RSPO, private sectors (Unilever), governments (Goverment of Riau Province), as well as local organisations (ASOFA and Fortasbi) in supporting the RSPO certification of more than 700 independent smallholders in two districts of Riau Province during 2018-2021. This includes the world’s first RSPO certified smallholder groups on peatland.

WRI Indonesia is an independent research organization that works with governments, businesses, multilateral institutions, and civil society groups to develop practical solutions that improve people’s lives and ensure nature can thrive in Indonesia. We organize our work around several crucial issues: Forest and Land Use, Climate, Energy, Cities and Transportation, and the Ocean. In the context of Land Use, we aspire to achieve sustainable land management and commodities production throughout Indonesia. This is achieved by empowering independent smallholders to manage their land responsibly and produce commodities in a sustainable manner. WRI Indonesia’s mission is to move human society to live in ways that protect earth’s environment and its capacity to provide for the needs and aspirations of current and future generations.
