Workshop on Land Use Cover Change (LUCC)Analysis Guidance for RSPO Remediation and Compensation Procedure

The RSPO Compensation Task Force (CTF) will be conducting a two-day workshop on the LUCC Analysis Guidance. The workshop, to be held in Le Meridien, Jakarta, will focus on gathering inputs from LUCC consultants and RSPO members on the LUCC Analysis process during the one year staged implementation period.

The dates for the workshop are set to be on June, 30th to July, 1st 2015.

The compensation procedure, developed through a consultative process among group members specifically the members of CTF and other stakeholders, is a sub-unit of the Biodiversity and High Conservation Working Group (BHCV WG). It was formulated by the CTF members with an aim to assist growers to attain full certification in all their operating units as well as to ensure social and environmental sustainability.

Under the Remediation and Compensation Procedure (RaCP), it is a requirement for grower members who are not in compliance with Criterion 7.3 to conduct the LUCC Analysis. The purpose of the analysis is to calculate the final conservation liabilities.

The main objective of the workshop is to standardise the understanding on the LUCC requirement under the procedure. This includes:

1.  Reflecting on the current output of the staged implementation period with regards to the LUCC analysis exercise.

2.  Interpreting the key principles required for the LUCC Analysis Review under the RSPO RaCP, which includes informing, improving and standardising the current review process.

3. Addressing burning issues such as the classification of vegetation cover into RSPO coefficient values and special ecosystems that have not been correctly captured during the staged implementation period.
